Lee W Bass was born in Madison, Wisconsin and grew up playing outside from dawn to dusk, spending several early adult years in Ecuador and Europe. She was a young woman of the sixties and walked acres of alfalfa looking for the five leaflet leaf. Lee lived in Arizona and California before returning to the Midwest, earning a B.F.A. in painting and textiles from the University if Wisconsin. Later, she took on the roles of wife, mother, gardener and worked in raptor rehabilitation for the University of Minnesota. She also was a licensed falconer, flying a red tail hawk in empty city lots chasing the elusive rabbit. Today she can be found playing with her granddaughter, walking the river bluffs near her home and striving to put their essence to photographic paper.
Lee has exhibited across the country including group shows in Texas and Vermont and a recent solo exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston, MA. Her work is included in public collections including the Eastman House International Museum of Photography in Rochester, NY. Lee lives and works in Minneapolis.
